Roger and Don Beaty were raised in and around funeral service by Ray Edwards, a family friend from church, who was a funeral home owner at McCary-Edwards-Cain Funeral Home. It was a business with a rich history that under previous owners and names had served the community since the early 1900's. Ray Edwards took the two brothers under his wing and showed them what it meant to serve others in their time of need.
Mr. Edwards' passion for serving others made such an impression on the two young boys that they grew to love working in the funeral home, and eventually found a true calling in funeral service as a career.
Roger and Don Beaty attended the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science and became licensed funeral directors in the early 70s. In 1989, Roger and Don had the opportunity to purchase the funeral home they had practically grown up in. The Beaty brothers' life-long dream was to go into business together in their home town, and to own the business that had meant so much to them in their early years was a dream come true. They purchased the funeral home and renamed it Beaty Funeral Home.
The brothers were soon expanding into new areas and improving on facilities. A location in Mineola, formerly English Funeral Home, was purchased in 1991, and a location in Hawkins was dedicated in 1995. That same year, a new building at 816 West Broadway in Winnsboro was built to better serve the community. The Beaty family also owns and operates Roselawn Memorial Gardens, a perpetual care cemetery in Mineola.
In 2001, the Beaty family was saddened by the loss of Roger. It was that same year that ownership shifted to the next generation. Today, Don's son, Paul Beaty, serves as Managing Director with Beaty Funeral Home. The friendly staff at each location is active in many community organizations, including the Winnsboro Autumn Trails Association, the Chamber of Commerce in Winnsboro, Mineola, and Hawkins, and local Kiwanas and Lion's Clubs.
