Obituary for Cecil Lamar Moody

Cecil Lamar Moody was born on January 14, 1925 in Golden, TX and passed away after a long battle with dementia on February 12, 2019.
Cecil graduated from High School in Golden in 1942 and attended East Texas State on a basketball scholarship. On September 11, 1944, he married Gloria Lea Hendrix. They moved to Houston where he worked in the ship yards until he was drafted into the Army.
After his time in the service they moved back to Mineola and had 2 children, Sharon and Johnny. Cecil worked for the Texas Highway Department, Lee Ray Construction and retired from Kenneth William’s Exxon Distributor.
After the death of Gloria in 1984, Cecil married Jean Cotham and gained 4 more children. They loved to go dancing, travel and spend time with family and friends. Both loved to work in their yard, which always looked pristine.
Cecil was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mineola and sang in the Men’s Choir. He was an avid quail hunter and loved to hunt and train his dogs.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Birdie Moody, four brothers: Bernice, Herman, Ferrell and Willie Joe, and four sisters: Vivian, Ruby Lee, Betty Mae and Wilda. His wife Gloria and second wife, Jean. He is survived by his children, Sharon Greer and husband Tom, John Moody and wife Nancy, Larry Cotham and wife Pat, Cindy Haynes and husband Tyson, Jimmy Cotham and wife Vicky, and JoAnn Cotham and partner Mary Nevers, as well as 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Beaty Funeral home on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers please donate to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, (CAF) or Sands Springs Cemetery, where Cecil was President of the Board.
