Gladys  Harris (Allen)
Gladys Harris was born on August 31, 1925 in Longview, Texas, to the late Wilbur Allen and Enola Bush Allen. She passed away on Tuesday, October 16th, 2018 in Mineola, Texas.

She attended school in Mineola and Quitman, Texas. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Quitman Colored High School. She also attended Bishop College in Marshall, Texas.

Gladys married Noble Harris on September 16, 1946. During their marriage they lived in Mineola and Dallas, Texas, and Shreveport, and Jonesboro, Louisiana. During their 33-year marriage they raised two sons and two daughters.

She was a retired dietary employee for Wood Memorial Nursing Home. In Shreveport, she worked as a dormitory assistant at Centenary College. She considered being a wife and mother as her most important work.

She was a longtime member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she was a past member of the Willing Workers Circle.

Gladys enjoyed reading, traveling, attending church, and being with her family. Her travels took her from George Washington’s Mount Vernon to the San Francisco Bay and many points in between.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Noble Harris Sr.; son, Ronald Wayne Harris, granddaughter, Narsha Radford, great granddaughter, Deja Lyons; seven brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her son, Noble Harris Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Wanda McKnight and her husband Florida of Mineola, Texas, and Sharon Cornelius and her husband Sidney of DeSoto, Texas; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She also leaves many other relatives and friends who will miss her sweet personality.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 19th, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home 5396 S. State Hwy. 37 Mineola, TX 75773.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 20th, 2018 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church 304 Stone St. Mineola, Texas 75773 at 11:00 am, Rev. Demethruis Boyd conducting, interment will follow at Mineola City Cemetery.
