Obituary for Shirley Gunter

Shirley Gunter
Shirley was born June 30, 1938 in Bug Tussle, Texas to Jessie Ted and Marie (Howell) Holland. She spent most of her early years in Fannin County, until the family moved to Denison, Texas when Shirley was 14.
She graduated from Denison High School, participating in the High School Band. A highlight during her school days was the train trip to President Eisenhower’s inauguration in Washington D.C.
Shirley was the primary guardian of the Holland Family during her lifetime, keeping touch with her parents, siblings, and other family members, including a long list of cousins on both sides of the family. With her guidance and planning, there were many shared vacations and weekend gatherings, keeping the family in touch. She took pride in learning many of her Mother’s skills, including a flair for interior design and sewing.
Shirley worked at various administrative positions in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, including a position with Dale Milford, U.S. Congressman from 1973-79. After retiring and moving with her husband Ronald Gunter to Mineola, she enjoyed friendships with the ladies in her neighborhood. She continued to keep in touch with her lifelong friends and relatives on a regular basis.
Shirley is survived by her son Ricky Don Hansen, step-children Kim Bacon and Todd Gunter, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her brother Jim Holland and her Caregiver Melody Guidry. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Virginia, son Russell Hansen, and husband Ronald Gunter.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola.
Funeral Services are set for 1:00 PM Friday at the funeral home with interment ot follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Mineola, TX.
