On Saturday, April 20, 2019 James Larry Tucker, devoted husband and loving father passed away at the age of 84. Larry was born on January 12, 1935 in Golden, Texas to Edgar and Julia Mae Tucker. Larry attended school in Golden where he met the love of his life Mary Willis. After marrying, Larry and Mary moved to Nacogdoches, Texas. Larry attended Stephen F. Austin State University and graduated with a degree in Education. As Larry began his career as a teacher and coach, he and Mary also began growing their family. They raised three daughters, Jamie, Jana and Jae and instilled a value of education and the importance of family with all of them. As a teacher and coach at Rivercrest High School, Larry stressed these same values with his students. He led his teams to State championships in Girls’ Basketball, Boys’ Basketball, and Girls’ Track. In addition to teaching and coaching, Larry served as Superintendent of Leonard ISD for over 20 years. Throughout the Tucker family’s time in Leonard, Larry made many lifelong friendships and served in many roles, other than just the Superintendent. Larry’s strong work ethic could only be matched by his love of family, friends, and fun. He loved to share stories, play cards and dominoes, laugh with friends and teach anyone that was willing how to water-ski on Lake Bonham. After retirement, Larry and Mary moved back to their childhood home of Golden. They were members of the Golden Baptist Church and spent their days enjoying the outdoors and celebrations with family. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Julia Mae, his brother Max Ray, and his wife Mary. He is survived by his three daughters, his grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 1:00pm at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola, Texas. The funeral service will be at 2:00pm that same day at Sand Springs Baptist Church.
The family respectfully request no flowers. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the James Larry Tucker Scholarship Fund care of Leonard High School, 300 E. Hackberry, Leonard Texas 75454 or to the Rivercrest Educational Association in care of Rivercrest ISD, 4100 US Hwy. 271, and Bogata, TX 75417.

My sincere condolences go out to Mr. Tucker's family. I know he will be sorely missed for the joy he brought your family. In this time of unimaginable grief, It is heartening to know that our creator can give us comfort. “The father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort...comforts us in all our trials (2 Corinthians 1: 3,4). The bible assures us that God will help us in our time of need and bring relief to our troubled heart. The Bible also contains a profound hope for the future at Revelations 21: 3,4 where it says, “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”” This hope can bring some light in these dark and trying times.
