Obituary for Susan Dianne (Dickens) Caruso

On March 21, 2018, Susan Dianne Caruso, age 58, died at East Texas Medical Center peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends. Susan Dianne Dickens was born April 7th, 1959 in Glendale, California. Susan was married for 35 happy years to Richard Caruso. In 2005, Susan and Richard Caruso answered God’s calling and moved their family from Long Beach, California to Mineola, Texas.

She was the devoted mother of John Walter Caruso, Melissa Sue Ann Caruso, Christina Dianne Caruso and Joshua Ryan Caruso. She is survived by her parents James F. and Sara L. Dickens and siblings James G. Dickens and Carol Hoffmeier. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Gordon F. and Wilma Cook Dixson and paternal grandparents W.D. and Lonie Weston Dickens.

Susan excelled at every role- wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher and friend. Susan was a dedicated, passionate and beloved schoolteacher. She served 12 years in Lawndale, California teaching an experimental K-2 grouping for English language learners. She also taught 10 years at Hawkins Elementary School teaching 1st grade and math intervention for K-5. Susan’s joy, laughter and sense of humor will not be forgotten.

Her unwavering faith in God, as well as the prayers of family and friends carried her through her final months. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude for the love and support the Mineola and Hawkins community has given to them during this difficult time.
