Viola Smith (Kimmey)
Viola Smith died March 21, 2018, at Wood Memorial in peace after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born July 28, 1924, in Kirbyville, TX to the late Harvey H. Kimmey and Nora A. Howard.
Viola and her late husband moved to Mineola in the year 1946. They raised their family in the nearby community of Jamestown where she attended the local Baptist church.
She thoroughly enjoyed gardening and canning. Playing BINGO and spending “girls night out” at the casinos with her daughter’s and sisters was also a favorite pastime.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Elvie Smith; son, Edward Don Smith; sisters, Vera Wilmoth, Mary Adkins and Freda McDowell and her two brothers, Charlie Kimmey and Frank “FJ” Kimmey.
Survivors include her daughters; Alma Hackenberger and her husband Jimmy of Palmer, AK and Iris Henderson of Mineola, TX; her son, James Smith and his wife Donna of Mineola, TX; one sister, Frankie Armstrong of Providence, TX and one brother, Harvey Kimmey and his wife Faye of Grand Saline, TX. She had 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She will be missed dearly by her loved ones and remembered fondly by the many friends she made along the way.
Services for Viola Frances Kimmey Smith, 93, Mineola, are scheduled for 11 am, Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Beaty Funeral Home Chapel in Mineola, Tx, with Bro. Mike Sullivan officiating. Active pallbearers are Michael McDowell, David McDowell, Ricky McDowell, Jimmy Armstrong, Harvey Kimmey and Steven Tucker. Honorary pallbearers are John Turner and Lonnie Lee. Burial will follow the funeral services at Providence Cemetery.
