Frauline McCollum Gresham passed from this life peacefully on June 1 1, 2018 at the age of 97.
She was born February 25, 1921 in Alba, Texas, the oldest daughter of Edgar and Mae (Robbins) McCollum. She was preceded in death by husbands, Sidney Pillow and Herman Gresham, brother, Raymond McCollum and sister, Dorothy (McCollum) Allen. She is survived by her sister, Vonda (McCollum) Ragsdale and a host of nieces and nephews and their spouses.
Frauline was a life-long resident of Mineola, Texas and owned Frauline's Beauty Salon & Merle Norman Studio for more than 50 years. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and her membership activities she and Herman shared in the Broad Street and Mineola Churches of Christ. Frauline was a proponent of exercise and healthy eating long before those disciplines attained their present prominence.
She enjoyed Duplicate Bridge and rose through the years to Grand Life Master status, playing in tournaments throughout the Southwest. She was a fierce competitor as many of her partners and opponents can attest.
Frauline was Valedictorian of her high school class and vigorously promoted the benefits of higher education to all her nieces and nephews, offering encouragement and assistance with college educations. She was a staunch supporter and advocate for all the interests and challenges of her nieces and nephews, loving and treating them like they were her own children.
A special thanks is offered by the family to Wesley House Assisted Living Facility and Heritage Healthcare Residence in Quitman for their care and attention to Aunt Frau for the last years of her life. The family is also grateful for the gentle care provided by her loving sister, Vonda Ragsdale.
In loving memory of Frauline Gresham, her family will hold a ceremony in the Beaty Funeral Home Chapel (Mineola). She will be laid to rest in Roselawn Cemetery, next door. The services will be 10:00 am. Saturday, June 16, 2018.
